7/6/09

I went down to Speaker's Corner, stopping for strawberries and cream being sold on Marylebone High Street (amazing) and heard the crazy people speak for a while. I listened to a Christian group for a little and a guy came and told me more about Jesus. I then went over to watch the Socialist Party speak, which was rather interesting. The capitalist crowd seemed to win most of the arguments, but he brought up some interesting ideas. I then watched a guy saying that women were worthless in very animated tones, getting the crowd rather upset, before he ended up saying he was just trying to get a rise out of everyone because these should be fun. It was pretty interesting.

It was raining so I ducked into Selfridge's and then met up with Heidi and we went down to Brick Lane market. We wandered around and I got Ethiopian food, some sort of three sauce wrap, really good. I also got a strawberry lassi, which was ok, not great.

We walked to Spitalfields market (which Dickens wrote about and a Jack the Ripper murder happened there) and I ended up getting a magenta shirt for a pound. I really love walking around the markets, I wish I did more of it here, the atmosphere is great. Lots of young people, cheap clothes, people playing music, there's just not much like that in America.

We didn't really have any ideas of what to do next but we saw that there was a battle of the bands that night so we decided to go there. But it was cancelled so we went back to The Comedy Store for their improv show. Josie Lawrence and Richard Vranch weren't there, but Lee Simpson (who is really hilarious) was so the show was really awesome. The first time might have been a little better, but this was still terrific.
